Happy Thanksvegan!

It’s Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S. where we annually celebrate the arrival of white Europeans at Plymouth Rock (or thereabouts) and the beginning of subjugation and attempted extinction of the indigenous peoples and their culture. We do this by slaughtering about 50 million turkeys for just ONE DAY.

That said there are many things I’m thankful for … the fantastic NGOs that I support regularly with my hard-earned dollars, letters and phone calls to Congressional leaders and state legislators, volunteerism, and the daily activism of living a vegan life.

Today, I’m especially thankful for this video of the Kabirizi family of mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo. It’s been 15 long months since gorilla rangers have been able to visit the gorillas and conduct a census of the habituated groups and it’s very, very dangerous for them to be there. I am constantly impressed by their courage and dedication to the wildlife and environmental conservation in the Virungas. The best news is that the Kabirizi family has babies!
