Over at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center blog, Siew Te Wong has posted a link to an urgent petition to help conserve Malaysian wildlife. You can sign it here and I urge you to do so immediately – a lot is at stake.
Wong’s post includes some disturbing and graphic images of wildlife killed for fun, or injuries from snares set by poachers. Never heard of snares? They’re insidious and they’ve become the number method used around the world for poaching wildlife. Sadly, many animals are caught in snares intended for other animals and they are left with life-ending injuries. Snares are made of wire, often bicycle wire, and inflict the most horrible injuries you can imagine. Here are some photos from Wong’s blog of killed or injured animals:
Overpopulation and the demand for palm oil as biodiesel fuel and a food additive are driving deforestation of Malaysia and destroying the habitat for all wildlife species. Orangutans who venture on to oil palm plantations are often shot on sight, as are other species.
Please visit Wong’s blog and read and sign the petition and donate to support his conservation work.

Thanks for posting this Sheryl. This is so sad. I signed the petition. I hope it helps. Lisa
Poor little babies. That elephant leg makes me sad.
This really makes me sad. Why do people have to be so cruel?
