Tai Shan Turns Three Today

As you can see from my banner image, Tai Shan and I have been friends for a long time. Today, he turns three years old and the zoo gave him a couple of giant fruitsicles (frozen water and apple juice with bits of bamboo, apples, pears, and carrots tossed in) including one in the shape of the numeral three. He was a bit frightened by the site of the fruitsicles, probably because last year the frozen “2″ fell on his head, but after a while he got down to enjoying them.

You can watch him and one or the other of his parents on the National Zoo’s Panda Cam. Here’s a little story from Xinhua News about his birthday, his possibly pregnant mother, and featuring one of my volunteer colleagues. I’ll see him in person this afternoon to wish him a Happy Birthday.

  1. Awww! Wish him Happy birthday for me too.

Also, that panda cam is dangerous – I can’t have yet another distraction at work but it’s so fun to watch!

  2. Hahaha, the two fell on his head last year?!?!?!! Poor guy!
