Farm Sanctuary needs your help to take care of 27 animals rescued from a “free range” farm. Some of the sheep are pregnant and in very poor health and need medical attention immediately.
After at least four years of cruelty reports by neighbors that went unanswered, Farm Sanctuary was recently alerted to a horrendous case of cruelty at a free range meat farm in Canaan, New York. And, following a month-long struggle with local authorities, we were able to confiscate 27 starved and dehydrated animals — including one pig, as well as 14 sheep who are pregnant and about to give birth.
The sheep arrived at Farm Sanctuary filthy and parasite-infested and were so malnourished that, without intervention, they would not have been able to produce milk for their babies, who will be born soon. The animals’ former living conditions were also nightmarish, causing injury to several sheep who had festering wounds that were left untreated. Other sheep were forced to endure painful hoof problems, which made it difficult for them to walk. Farm Sanctuary healthcare staff have been working daily to stabilize the sheep; some of the animals, however, are still fighting to regain their health.
The pregnant mothers were so emaciated upon arrival at Farm Sanctuary that their babies’ lives may still be in peril. We need your help now to provide these severely-neglected mothers with the special care they, and their babies, need to survive.
The care, equipment and vital treatments we need for these mothers and their new fragile babies can only be made possible by the generosity of members like you. Be a part of this remarkable rescue. Give to the Red Barn Farm Rescue Fund today and we’ll send you birth announcements when the lambs arrive, as well as updates on the recovering mothers.
These animals bravely survived the devastating conditions we found them in at Red Barn Farm, but now their ongoing care is critical. And, that’s why we need your donation to this special fund right now.
Your gift will not only provide the life-saving care these mothers need, but also give their babies a healthy start in the world and keep them safe from harm. With your donation, the new lambs will never know the cruelty of their mothers’ past, or the tragic fate that countless lambs, slaughtered for meat, face each year in the U.S.
There’s more about Red Barn Farm in Canaan, New York (Google that, will ya? it’s a lovely lie) … Farm Sanctuary rescued animals from the farm back in February, too, after SPCA officials failed to act on reports of cruelty.
Whomever is running Red Barn Animal Torture Farm should be arrested and charged with animal cruelty and made to serve jail time or pay huge fines. Disgusting.

I was confused when I first heard about this through Farm Sanctuary. I also did a Google search and found a Web site and references to lovely, organic Red Barn Farm, complete with photo of mom and two kids. I wonder if the farm sold since the Web site was last updated. Also very conspiratorial, the lack of action by authorities and the lack of mentioned names. I imagine whoever’s responsible for the abuse must have some local clout.
Yeah, I had the same experience but didn’t post the link because I wanted to see pics from Farm Sanctuary first. The photos they took of Red Barn Farm are a far cry from what’s depicted on that Web site. As for the ASPC refusing to do anything for those animals, even after a vet said they were in desperate condition, well, it makes me never trust the ASPCA.
Thanks for stopping by!
