Congo Rangers Post Update on Kabirizi Gorilla Family

Rangers Diddy and Innocent updated the Gorilla Protection blog yesterday with photos and videos of the Kabirizi family. The family numbers 31 with seven infants and the rangers found the right number of nests to account for all members of the family. Later on they found them playing together and posted a video of one of the younger members who needs medical attention. Her mother died before she was weaned and she’s being taken care of by some other females in the group, but her skin suffers from the lack of mother’s milk. The Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project vets were called to visit the Kabirizi family as soon as possible.

It’s a really good update with lots of information about how the rangers examine gorilla poop to tell if the gorillas are well or suffering an illness. They also included a picture of the boundaries of the park – for me! – at the top of the post. That shout-out made my day.
