I’m on the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International’s e-mail list and they just sent this report about Ndeze (pronounced “dee-zee”), whose mother, Safari, was killed in last week’s massacre of the Rugendo gorilla family.
Dear NotHoney,
The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International (DFGFI) is again working with local authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to help care for an infant mountain gorilla that was orphaned as the result of an armed attack on July 22, the second killing of mountain gorillas in two months in the Virunga National Park, DRC. DFGFI is springing into action to help address the situation by supporting the immediate addition of new park guards for this area, at the request of the Congolese park service. It is hoped that the addition of these guards will prevent further killings. A conservation education program for the region is also being planned.
With your immediate support, we will be able to do more to help save the endangered mountain gorillas in this region of the Congo.
