A group of 200 Mai Mai rebels attacked Congo gorilla rangers, killing one and wounding others.
These rangers protect the mountain gorillas that are disappearing rapidly in the Congo. One ranger’s pregnant wife died from complications caused by shock following the attack. The rebels are threatening to kill a family of mountain gorillas if they’re pursued. [...]

Today, our illustrious leader announced that he wants to talk about reducing carbon emissions at the G8 Summit next week. He’s ignoring the Kyoto Agreement and ignoring Germany’s plan for “after 2012″ when the Agreement expires because he doesn’t really want to do anything, he’s just paying lip service to us and the world. He [...]

Today is environmentalist Rachel Carson’s 100th birthday. Carson’s book, “Silent Spring,” launched the global environmental movement when published in 1962. This won’t matter to the naysayers out there who prefer to believe that humans are not causing planetary climate change and that their bad habits are not killing the earth and its abundant species, but for the rest of you it’s encouraging. There is overwhelming agreement among scientists that human activity is causing global warming [...]

I’m going to celebrate by renewing my memberships to Friends of the National Zoo and Farm Sanctuary. You can celebrate by learning more about five critically endangered species highligted by the Sierra Club. They are grizzly bears, polar bears (I LOVE BEARS!), manatees from my home state, salmon, and peninsular bighorn sheep. I highly recommend [...]

The Sierra Club’s “Current” magazine reports that Puget Sound steelhead salmon are now listed as threatened on the Endangered Species List. “Steelhead are a popular game fish and both sportsmen and environmentalists are deeply concerned about their future. Members of both groups are taking action to improve the degraded habitat, man-made barriers, and harmful hatchery [...]

Many thanks to Zelda for sending this along to me.
CNN Money reports that putting special additives in your gas tank or turning off the AC won’t save gas. Rik Paul, the automotive editor for the publication Consumer Reports along with the government’s Environment Protection Agency, “have tested dozens of these products finding that none of them [...]
