Already the Washington Post has buried the story on their Web site. I guess that stupid football game is more important than finding out how to keep our planet from dying.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change yesterday let fly their “Climate Change 2007″ report, written by hundreds of scientists from 113 countries including China and India – the fastest growing nations on the planet. The Post reports that “based on new research over the last six years, it is 90 percent certain that human-generated greenhouse gases account for most of the global rise in temperatures over the past half-century.”
There. They almost said it. Rumor has it the Chinese government put the kabosh on claiming that human activities are 100 percent responsible for the global rise in temperatures.
So, how did our own Dear Leader respond? Just like you’d expect, just like he has in the past, by claiming that doing anything about global warming pollution would hurt jobs and destroy our economy.
He seems to miss the big point that if we have no fucking planet left it won’t matter if we have no fucking jobs. Pardon my language, but after six years of listening to this jackass kiss up to his Big Oil buddies and start a war just to get more oil to keep his base fat and rich, I’m completely sickened by his Administration’s inability to see the truth when it’s right in front of them. Of course, Dubya’s base includes the Hummer-buying, gas-guzzling American public who believe that oil is an inexhaustable resource and that they can carry on with their energy-wasting lives as they always have, THE FUTURE BE DAMNED.
What’s it gonna take to get our own government to wake up and smell the global warming pollution? Action – from you and action from other countries. The French government wants to institute a carbon tax. President Chirac “warned that if the United States did not sign the (Kyoto) agreements, a carbon tax across Europe on imports from nations that have not signed the Kyoto treaty could be imposed to try to force compliance. The European Union is the largest export market for American goods.”
Well now, that’ll hit Dubya’s friends where it hurts – in their fat wallets. I hope the EU passes this tax.
What can you do? Start writing to your legislators, call them, fax them, get their attention and tell them to support the recently introduced bills for mandatory carbon controls. Follow some simple Green Tips, learn all you can about global warming pollution and its effects on the environment and wildlife, stop believing the government’s pro-oil propaganda, and stop believing this isn’t YOUR problem that that there’s nothing you can do.
Apathy kills.
