Bad News Wednesday

I remember one of the National Zoo’s keepers telling us during a lecture that “it’s a hard time to be an environmentalist.”

Well, thanks to our Fearless Leader and Senator Barack Obama, things just got harder.

Bush has lifted the ban on oil drilling in Bristol Bay, Alaska and part of the Gulf of Mexico. It will take several years for surveys and studies to determine the best places to drill and totally destroy the environments in both areas, but unless Bush suddenly grows a spine and starts saying “NO!” to Big Oil, the drilling will commence.

Senator Obama has apparently given in to complaints from the Illinois coal industry, by backing a law that supports the expanded use of coal. You remember coal, right? It’s cooking our planet. The National Resources Defense Council says coal-to-liquids plants are not inherently “clean.” Yet Senator Obama appears to ignore that warning and others with his plan to allow more coal-to-liquids plants. He claims burning coal will reduce our dependence on foreign oil but he’s forgotten the part about reducing CO2 emissions to save the planet from frying to death.

Obama’s action makes me seriously reconsider him as a presidential candidate.
